Since the coronavirus health emergency began, UPM has rapidly implemented health protocols at all its construction sites in Uruguay. UPM is implementing these measures and requires its contractors to strictly comply with the national requirements and the protocols in force.
The first temporary housing has been completed in Charrúa neighbourhood in Paso de los Toros. These module houses were built by a local company Volfer.
The Charrúa neighbourhood is designed to provide comfortable place for the plant construction workers in Paso de los Toros.
One of the most important aspects of the mill construction project concerns transport and food services for the workers at the construction site.

UPM will invest in the improvement of wastewater collection and treatment in Paso de los Toros and Centenario as well as in the improvement of the dump in Paso de los Toros.
UPM and the Uruguayan El Paso Civil Association have agreed to jointly implement a project which aims to help prevent potential sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.
The focus of the projects is on education and community development.
